UnitedHealthcare's New Contract Amendment Includes Medicare Advantage

UnitedHealthcare has recently sent out a letter to participating physicians regarding a notice of contract changes. According to the notice, your participation in UHC will soon include participation in the UHC Medicare Advantage networks (SecureHornizons, Evercare, Erickson Advantage). This is not an illegal practice, however other health plans have agreed to not use these "all products" clauses as per the RICO settlements. It is your practice's choice to accept the provisions or not.

If you do not want to accept the provisions, you must notify UHC. Not accepting would mean a termination of your UHC contract. If you do not respond, UHC will assume that you or your practice agrees with the amendment and the associated fee schedules. These additional plans will be lumped into your existing UHC contract effective 1/1/08.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Bryan White at DCMS at (214) 413-1444. You can also contact the TMA Payment Advocacy Department.
